Why pay twice for a game that you already own?

PS Vita owners have been asking themselves that question over the past few months as they struggled to find a reason - and sufficient cash - to buy copies of games on both PS3 and PS Vita in order to enjoy crossplay functionality.

Sony’s Jim Ryan kicked off his Gamescom press conference by addressing this issue and introducing Cross-Buy: a new feature designed to appeal to PS Vita owners.

Two games for the price of one

The functionality of Cross-Buy is exactly what Vita owners have been hoping for since the Vita’s launch: when when you purchase a PS3 copy of a Cross-Buy game, you'll get a PS Vita copy at no additional cost.

You didn't read that wrong: there will be no cost for the PS Vita copy of a Cross-Buy game, as long as you buy the PS3 version first.

Sony plans to launch Cross-Buy with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and listed Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Ratchet & Clank: Q-Force as two other upcoming Cross-Buy titles.
