Gears of War developer Epic Games has today announced the opening of a new Hunt Valley, Maryland-based studio called Impossible, which will work on Infinity Blade: Dungeons - a Diablo-esque adventure for iOS that was conceived at Epic’s Cary studio.

Impossible is made up of several ex-Big Huge Games employees, who have been responsible for great titles like the excellent PC RTS Rise of Nations; and Xbox 360, PS3, and PC title Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

"Epic Games has truly embraced this stellar collection of developers who were displaced by the closing of Big Huge Games," Sean Dunn, the new studio's director, said. "They have looked after us with complete care, giving us all the tools and resources we need to make a lot of gamers happy.”

"We were so glad we could help keep this great team together, and we're lucky to have them," Dr. Michael Capps, Epic Games's president, commented.

"At the time, I said that finding a full team of superstars was ‘impossible’ and apparently the name stuck! Pairing the imagination and experience of Impossible with Epic’s technology, IP and resources makes for a business greater than the sum of its parts."

Infinity Blade: Dungeons will be unleashed onto the App Store "later this year".
