Magic: The Gathering creator working with Ascension team on 'revolutionary' digital card game
Talent: The Pooling
Another day, another Kickstarter page. But, wait: is that Magic: The Gathering creator and trading card game godfather Richard Garfield I see peering out from my screen? What gives?
Well, it turns out that the guys behind the Ascension franchise are working with Garfield on SolForge, an all-new card game created exclusively for the digital medium.
According to the Kickstarter project brief, SolForge will represent a culmination of the expertise both Gary Games (the Ascension dev) and Garfield have gained.
SolForge will also provide a vehicle for a new category of card game, the Digital Collectible Game, which is unshackled from the restrictions of its physical card-based ancestors.
Cards on the table(t)Take SolForge's central mechanic - card transformation. Thanks to the wonder of refreshable pixels, cards within the game can be levelled-up.
This means you can watch as your Dragon Egg card transforms into a Dragon Whelp, then matures into a full-grown earth-scorching Giant Dragon.
The SolForge team is looking to raise $250,000 before September 10th, and is offering backers the chance to beta test the game, and get their hands on free starter decks. Pledge $2,500 or more, and you'll even get to go for dinner with Garfield himself.
SolForge will be a free-to-play experience, and is being developed for PC and iOS, though a future Android version is a possibility.
