Apple will unveil the next-generation iPhone - already dubbed the 'iPhone 5' or the 'new iPhone' - on September 12th, according to sources close to iMore.

This Apple-centric tech site claims that the sources, which have "proven accurate in the past", have also revealed that the so-called iPhone 5 will be available to buy from September 21st.

If these sources are to be believed, the much-rumoured iPad mini will also be unveiled at Apple's special September 12th event, the date of which was corroborated by tech publication AllThingsD.

To back up its assertion that the iPhone 5 is only weeks from arriving on store shelves, AllThingsD pointed to Apple's inventory component pre-payment figures, which have risen significantly over the past few months.

Historically, this increase in component acquisition occurs in the months leading up to an Apple product launch.
