Excitement levels up

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for iPad will be out in September for $9.99

Attention, all old skool hack 'n' slash RPG fans: the much-anticipated iPad relaunch of Baldur's Gate has been officially confirmed for September.

Originally released on PC by BioWare - who would go on to create the Mass Effect series - way back in 1998, Baldur's Gate attracted heaps of praise and a fair old number of sales. It was credited, alongside Diablo, with giving the Western RPG genre a good kick up the jacksie.

Its hallmarks were an immensely detailed world, highly customisable gameplay, and an involving storyline.

This new edition runs on an all-new engine that's been specially customised for tablets, so it'll look a lot sharper than you'd expect a 14-year-old game to look.

Expanding your horizons

As well as the original Baldur's Gate adventure, this enhanced edition will contain the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack and a bunch of brand-new content. This will include another new adventure (The Black Pits) and a new party member (a monk named Rasaad yn Bashir).

You'll also be able to buy a load of enhancements, such as new characters, portraits, and voice sets, through in-app purchases.

Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition will land on the App Store in September for £6.99 / $9.99. Considering the PC version will retail for twice that (albeit with all the in-app purchases included), that's not bad value at all.

An Android version has also been promised by the developer, though a release date hasn't been set yet.
