Gamevil knocks us out with preview for Punch Hero on Android

As with so many things in life, I much prefer video game boxing to its real-life counterpart. Who wants to watch two sweaty men taking it in turns to cuff each other around the lughole? Not I.

Take a game like Punch Hero, on the other hand. Here, you can thwack a host of wacky characters in OTT style from the comfort of your iOS device - and soon from Android, as well.

Gamevil recently revealed footage of Punch Hero for Android in action, and it's looking rather splendid.

Hit me!

The game plays out quite a bit like Super KO Boxing 2 from Glu, which itself cribbed liberally from the classic Nintendo game Super Punch-Out!! Just as in Glu's game, you take control of a boxer from an over-the-shoulder perspective in Punch Hero, executing jabs, hooks, and dodges with various swipes and taps.

The key difference with Punch Hero is that it's rendered in 3D, which means the action is slightly more visceral.

It also makes it possible to fully customise your character with clothes, scars, and headgear. It's even possible to make your fighter look like a robot for some Real Steel-like action - minus Hugh Jackman. Bonus!

You can even take a picture of your own ugly mug and stick it on a fighter.

Punch Hero should hit Android sometime in August. Check out the footage below.
