Microsoft has announced that Windows 8's general release will be the 26th October.

As long as Microsoft wasn't telling fibs last month, that means its first Windows 8 tablet, the Surface, should be launching on the same day.

To quote the June 18th announcement directly, "Surface for Windows RT will release [sic] with the general availability of Windows 8".

The only issue with this assumption is that today's press release makes no mention of the Surface, instead choosing to focus solely on the various versions of the Windows 8 operating system instead.

Still, we'll keep you informed if the date slips back. In the meantime, we'll be throwing darts at the wall to guess the (still unannounced) price.
