Famitsu has published Japanese sales data for the PS Vita which show that Sony has shifted just 790,663 units after six months on sale.

In comparison, Nintendo has hitherto sold more than 17 million 3DS units, while Sony itself managed to shift 71 million PSPs over the course of its eight years on sale.

Despite the relatively low number of Vita sales, though, Sony Japan told Famitsu that this was in line with the company's expectations for the system, and that it expected August to produce good numbers thanks to the release of titles like Hatsune Miku.

In terms of games that most helped persuade gamers to part with their cash for the Vita, Persona 4 The Golden was the biggest draw, attracting sales of 188,782 despite its relatively young age.

Other top-selling Vita titles in Japan included Hot Shots Golf 6 (Everybody's Golf), which has posted sales of 118,985, while Uncharted: Golden Abyss dived into third place with 89,390 copies sold.
