New in-game footage of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for Nintendo 3DS surfaces

New in-game footage has surfaced online of Nintendo's upcoming portable platformer New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS.

The videos, which have been published on Nintendomination's YouTube channel, show the red plumber running, jumping, sliding, and flying through a number of familiar-looking environments.

The footage clearly reflects the new game's focus on coin collecting, with many of the levels packed full of shiny gold currency.

What a world

It's also evident that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will span all manner of terrain: from the classic green meadows of the early stages to snowy mountains, lava-filled pits, and aquatic environments.

We also catch a glimpse of the promised two-player co-op feature via a few seconds of footage that show Luigi and Mario working together in brotherly harmony.

Check out the videos below to see New Super Mario Bros. 2 in action.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released in Europe on August 17th. It will also be the first downloadable 3DS title from the Nintendo eShop.
