Metal Slug 3 parachutes onto Android and Xperia Play

Metal Slug 3's sneak assault on the App Store yesterday wasn't just an isolated incident, it would seem, but rather part of a larger strategy that's seen the classic arcade run 'n' gun game released on Google Play, too.

SNK Playmore's tale of soldiers behind enemy lines - which has been optimised for the Xperia Play - boasts the same Mission Mode found in the iOS version. In this mode, you can play levels you've unlocked in any order.

Metal Slug 3 for Android and Xperia Play also lets you battle it out co-operatively over Bluetooth, and is compatible with the OpenFeint gaming network.

The Xperia Play's slide-out controls should mean that leaping around and killing pretty much everything that moves is much easier to accomplish than it would be via the virtual buttons on a touchscreen.

So, if you fancy saving some hostages, murdering mutated crabs, and driving some of the best sprite-based tanks ever created, you should head over to the Google Play Store and pick up Metal Slug 3 for £4.99 [buy].
