The classic side-scrolling adventure game Mega Man is coming to the Japanese Nintendo eShop on July 18th.

Nintendo has set the pricing at ¥500 (roughly $6.00 / £4.00) and will make the game available on the 3DS Virtual Console. This release marks the first time that a Mega Man title has been released for the 3DS.

It is currently unknown when – or if – Nintendo plans to make Mega Man available to 3DS owners in Europe or North America.

The announcement of Mega Man’s arrival onto the eShop comes just a week after the release of the original, 8-bit Legend of Zelda, making July a banner month for retro Nintendo / Famicom gaming enthusiasts.

The original Mega Man was released in December of 1987 and pitted the Blue Bomber against his archenemy Dr. Wily and his six enemy robot masters, each in their own thematically appropriate level.
