2 Solitaire Blitz gamers break Guinness World Record for the Longest Videogames Marathon Playing a Card Game

Think that four-hour family Scrabble session on Sunday evening was exhausting? Think again.

Two gamers managed to clock up 30 consecutive hours playing Solitaire Blitz on Facebook on June 26th in order to raise over £60,000 for charity: water, a non-profit organisation that brings clean, safe drinking water to folks in developing nations.

In the process, the two Solitaire Blitz marathon 'runners' - Laura Rich from Cardiff and Kathleen Henkel of New Jersey - set a new world record for the Longest Videogames Marathon Playing a Card Game. Yes, that record does exist.

Rich and Henkel, chosen from millions of regular players for this record attempt, beat the previous Guinness World Record by five hours.

Over 1,400 spectators at the world record attempt, which was staged simultaneously at two locations in London and New York, pledged donations and helped the organisers reach the mammoth £60,000 mark. Charity: water will use the proceeds from this event to build 18 new wells in developing nations.

Solitaire Blitz is PopCap's latest horrendously addictive Facebook game, which flips the notion of traditional solitaire on its head through rapid-paced 60-second games and game-changing power-ups.

It's in development now for iOS devices, and should be launching later on in the year on the App Store.
