UPDATE: Rumour: Microsoft and Barnes & Noble to unveil eReader-media tablet combo
|
Update: Looks like Barnes & Noble has moved quickly to quash this rumour. A spokesperson speaking to The Verge has told the site "we are not part of [Microsoft's] announcement". Original story follows:

Last week, we reported on a rumour that suggested Microsoft is gearing up to release an iPad-killing own-branded tablet, which would be powered by Windows RT - the tablet version of Windows 8.

According to a new report by website TechCrunch, however, this isn't the case. Instead, the Redmond-based manufacturer is planning on unveiling a joint effort with Barnes & Noble.

The site's sources purport that the tablet will be an eReader-media tablet combo that will focus on delivering entertainment through its Xbox Live streaming functionality.

Either way, we'll know for sure later tonight. Microsoft's recently announced press conference is being held tonight at 23:30 BST.
