Vita sales stagnate as 3DS outsells it 7 to 1 in Japan
|

The lackluster sales for PS Vita in Japan continue despite a negligible increase that came during an off-week for both Nintendo and Sony.

Andriasang reports that the sales of this past week (May 14 - May 20) saw the PS Vita improve only slightly, moving 6,347 units. This figure is up exactly seven units from last week’s total of 6,340.

But 3DS reached an impressive milestone this week as it celebrated over 6 million units sold in Japan.

While Nintendo’s latest handheld still outsold the PS Vita 7 to 1, it saw a slight drop off of about 1.5 per cent falling from 46,425 to 45,752 units sold.

Software sales evenly mixed

On the software side, the 3DS has 8 of the top 20 slots with its highest placed title (Fire Emblem: Awakening) holding the #4 spot. Sony had an impressive showing this week with four new PSP titles, and managed to claim 6 of the top 20 slots.

The anticipated PSP released of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment - which still lacks a western release date - came in at #3, losing the #1 spot to a fellow PSP game My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute Portable Can't Be Continuing (that’s the actual title, by the way) which managed to sell 53.175 copies in its debut week.
