Upcoming GTA-inspired game Retro City Rampage offers cross-platform play between PS3 and PS Vita

Retro City Rampage, Vblank Entertainment's 8-bit homage to the GTA series, will be winging its way to the PS Vita soon, and the US PlayStation Blog has published a raft of new information about the port.

The most interesting news is that you'll be able to take your PS3 saves out and about with you, continuing your path of nostalgic destruction on your Vita. Online leaderboards are shared across the two versions, too, letting you upload your replays for gamers on either format to enjoy.

Furthermore, new filters have been added to the game, so if you've got a hankering to relive the monochrome days of the original Game Boy, you're in luck. The Vita version also has an optional scaled-up screen mode that zooms in on the action and strips out the arcade cabinet-style borders of its bigger brother.

As well as taking its cues from the original top-down GTA games, Retro City Rampage owes a debt to all manner of '80s coin-op classics, plus a fair few home console greats.

While Vblank has yet to confirm a release date for Retro City Rampage, Brian Provinciano, the one-man team behind most of Retro City Rampage, said in an interview at the recent PlayStation <3 Canada event that the game is all but done, and will be out as soon as possible.

You can see the rest of that interview in the video below.
