All the way back in January, gamers discovered a track-hopping glitch inside Mario Kart 7 for 3DS that allowed them to skip sections of the game's Wuhu Island Loop, Wuhu Mountain Loop, and GBA Bowser Castle 1 tracks during online multiplayer bouts.

Nintendo has finally released a update to patch this pesky exploit, which you can download for free from the 3DS's eShop. Well, providing your handheld is running the latest 3DS system firmware, that is.

And, no, you can't just conveniently forget to download the update and continue to use the shortcuts in online matches. You'll still be able to compete in single-player and local multiplayer matches, but you can't play online unless you've installed the patch.

This update is available from today, so make sure you download it.
