Last week, Nintendo's Satoru Iwata confirmed that his company's titles will soon be downloadable from the 3DS's eShop, starting with upcoming platformer New Super Mario Bros 2.

To add to that, the gaming giant has revealed in a statement to website IGN that it's "currently preparing a program for third parties" that will allow them to offer their games through Ninty's store. The company has no real announcement to make at the present time, though.

Unfortunately, we don't know when the first downloadable 3DS titles from third-party companies will go live on the eShop. We also don't know which companies will be involved in this program.

Still, it's nice to see Nintendo finally jump on the downloadable games bandwagon. Even if it is a little late to the party.
