Quad-core processor confirmed for the next Samsung Galaxy smartphone
4 cores and 7 days to go
Samsung has finally provided some concrete details regarding the next Galaxy handset, confirming that this eagerly anticipated smartphone will be powered by the new Exynos 4 quad-core processor.
Though there have been rumours to this effect dating back as far as January, this is the first time Samsung has officially lifted the hood on the company's imminent successor to the Galaxy S II.
According to the South Korean manufacturer's website, this new chip pumps out twice the processing power of the dual-core Exynos chip (found in the Galaxy Note).
Samsung claims its new quad-core processor consumes 20 per cent less power than its predecessor, too. Rather impressive.
Seven daysAt the bottom of Samsung's blog on the Exynos, the Android vendor also confirms that the "Exynos 4 Quad is scheduled to be adopted first into Samsung's next Galaxy smartphone that will officially be announced in May". That'll be next Thursday's Galaxy-themed Mobile Unpacked event, then.
We can't wait to see what the Galaxy S III - or should that be 'The next Galaxy' - is capable of. We'll bring you the full spec sheet the moment it appears.
