Comedic werewolf puzzler MacGuffin's Curse out on iOS
Howling good fun
Take a standard museum heist caper, mix in a cursed amulet that turns its bearer into a werewolf, add innovative puzzle gameplay, and you’ll get MacGuffin’s Curse - the latest offering from publisher Ayopa Games, courtesy of Australian indie developer Brawsome.
MacGuffin’s Curse is a story-driven game with characters are loving rendered in a hand-drawn art style that mixes a Professor Layton aesthetic with gameplay reminiscent of The Lost Vikings.
Howlin' wolfThe core gameplay of MacGuffin's Curse revolves around the main character switching between a dexterous human form and a hulking, more powerful werewolf form to solve escape-style puzzles.
The game, while lacking voice acting, features a memorable soundtrack, a challenging puzzle mechanic, and witty, comedic writing (it won the 2011 Best Game WritingFreeplay Award).
In addition, it comes with an integrated help system to eliminate frustrations and allow the player to concentrate on the story.
Alas, all of this does not come without a cost. While MacGuffin’s Curse won’t turn you into a werewolf, you might be howling mad when you see the 323MB size of the app - rather beefy for a puzzle game.
Still, if you’re looking for a well-written puzzle game to keep you entertained, MacGuffin’s Curse might just be the treasure you are looking for.
New to the App Store, MacGuffin’s Curse is available at a launch-sale price of $1.99, €1.59 or £1.49 (normal listing price is $4.99).
