Squids
By The Game Bakers - download for iPhone and iPad

Squids, which was updated to support the iPad back in December, is a colourful strategy title that features several RPG elements, such as the ability to level-up your character.

The aim of the game is to recruit a small party of stretchy squid - each with unique abilities - and jump into turn-based battles against other pesky sea creatures like shrimps and crabs.

At review, we gave this title a sparkling Silver Award, and commented that "every bite" of it is "a delight". That probably means it's worth downloading.

Apex Of The Racing
By BlueRox - download for iPhone and iPad

As you can see from the cropped screenshot above, Apex Of The Racing is a drive-'em-up in which you jump behind the wheel of 16 "specially designed" vehicles and race across 20 varied tracks.

You can compete in 15 different career events en route to fame and fortune, and put your driving skills to the test over three game modes - one of which tasks you with avoiding oncoming traffic.

There are more than 30 Game Center achievements waiting to be displayed on your virtual mantelpiece, plus a whole bunch of leaderboards to assault.
