Finnish developer Grand Cru has been working away for almost a year on its debut game - something it's publicly revealed for the first time.
Called The Supernauts, it takes all the most popular current gameplay elements, attempting to weave them into a colourful and highly social experience. It's not square
Like Minecraft, there's a heavy sandbox element, as you take control of your customisable superhero character, using his or her zapper to manipulate blocks in the game - building or destroying.
Of course, there will be plenty of missions and puzzles to solve - both solo and with friends. But Grand Cru has been learning from its friends at Sulake, who run the Habbo Hotel online community, to ensure that you'll have most fun playing collaboratively, visiting your friends' floating island homes, as well as experiencing instanced multiplayer areas for more specific challenges.
The basic plot has you living as superheroes above the earth, zooming down to save poor earthlings from the rising sea water - global warming, don't you know - to gain XP, currency, and cool loot.Whatever you want
Also ensuring you'll be able to play wherever and however you want, The Supernauts will be free-to-play and available on mobile, tablets, browsers, and Facebook.
You'll be able to log in from any supported devices (we're assuming iOS and Android for mobile and tablets - but with a particular focus on iPad), finding your world just as you left it.
"It's time to do something big," Grand Cru's CEO Markus Pasula told Pocket Gamer.
"I don't think there's been a free-to-play mobile social game yet everyone can play in the way that Angry Birds works for single player. That's our goal with The Supernauts but social."
The game's expected to be released later in 2012, and you can find out more about it, and when the beta will go live, via its website.
