Peggle HD wins BAFTA for Best Mobile and Handheld game
Extreme fever!
PopCap walked away with the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Video Game Award tonight for Best Mobile and Handheld game, with the company's evergreen Peggle HD beating off strong competition from hit titles such as EA Mobile's Dead Space and Nintendo's Super Mario 3D Land.
It was, in fairness, a bit of a surprise result on the night, with many expecting the red-capped plumber to take home the award in a category dominated by iOS games.
Instead, it was Bjorn the unicorn and friends who pegged the moustached handyman to the final post.
Got BAFTA peggedPeggle HD, which managed to secure a Pocket Gamer Gold Award in its iPhone incarnation, is the horribly addictive re-imagining of pegs-and-ball game Pachinko.
Its colourful vibe and infectiously happy tone have made it one of PopCap's most popular franchises over the years, and an extremely easy way for a certain writer to miss his stop on the train.
