Nokia's 41MP PureView 808 tech winging its way to Windows Phone
First device not far away
Nokia's decision to deploy a 41 megapixel camera sensor in a Symbian handset may have left attendees at Mobile World Congress bemused, but it appears the device could be set to serve as a handy testbed for future Windows Phones.
Senior VP Jo Harlow has told Finnish newspaper that the handset's camera technology – which is able to produce 38MP, 8MP or 5MP photos – will feature in Windows Phone devices in the near future, though no specific handsets were mentioned.
Next steps"I can't say precisely when, but it will not take very long," Harlow told the paper when questioned, according to a translation by WPCentral.
As Pocket Gamer discovered, the PureView 808's Carl Zeiss lens is able to capture 7 pixels of information and turn it into what Nokia describes as 1 'perfect pixel'.
The general reaction amongst critics, however, has been that device is let down by its chosen OS - the now aging Symbian, equipped with Nokia's Belle service pack.
Nevertheless, judges at Mobile World Congress' annual Global Mobile Awards saw fit to name the handset the best new device unveiled at the event, ironically beating out Nokia's two new Windows Phone device – the budget-conscious Lumia 610 and high-end Lumia 900 – in the process.
