Casual games tend to adhere to the long-held 'one finger' control principle that's been in existence since the days of gaming with buttons on monochrome screens.

Don’t Fry The Frog is unusual in that it requires both of your index fingers and, ideally, a surface to place your iPhone on.

But the premise is much less complex than the game mechanics.

You're protecting the frog, a big guy on a diet. Using a zapper you have to burn the unhealthy flies before he eats them, while keeping the nutritious flies alive for his consumption. It almost goes without saying that you also need to avoid zapping the frog.

The zapper runs from your two index fingers, destroying anything between them. You can take your fingers off the screen at any time, but the longer you continuously touch the screen the higher your score multiplier.

The first game will probably be brief, especially considering that your hungry frog can only eat three unhealthy flies or get accidently zapped three times.

Getting highscores nets money to spend in the shop. You can upgrade the flies to make your life easier. For instance, you can make the nasty yellow flies appear more frequently, which, while dangerous, allows you to increase your score more quickly.

Fly guy

Don’t Fry The Frog definitely is a pick-up-and-play game, but there isn’t a whole lot of incentive to keep playing.

The difficulty level teeters right on the edge of frustrating, and the gameplay is too repetitive to merit much of a time investment. The unlockable beams, backgrounds, and other shop items may help, but none of these is available at launch. Even the achievements don't add much flavour.

Don’t Fry The Frog is far from a bad game. It’s just hard to recommend it when there are hundreds of other casual arcade games that offer a more fulfilling experience.
