Video demo highlights news features of Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia
Xperia Play update due late April/early May
Sony Mobile (formerly Sony Ericsson) has released the beta ROM of its Android 4.0 update for Xperia smartphones.
That means that if you own an unlocked Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V, or Xperia ray, you can install a pre-release version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich designed for Xperia blowers.
The Xperia Play may not be able to run the beta ROM, but it - and the rest of the 2011 Xperia range - will be getting the Android 4.0 update once Sony Mobile begins a public rollout. This rollout is scheduled to begin in late March and end in May.
Sneak peekIn the meantime, Sony Mobile has produced a video demo (posted below) that showcases some of the features that Xperia users can expect to see in the update, including an updated UI and the ability to control the music player and camera from the lock screen.
Sony Mobile has also promised that the final version will allow users to unlock their phone simply by looking into the device's front-facing camera. This feature isn't, unfortunately, included in the beta ROM.
