EA's free-to-play shooter Battlefield 3: Aftershock removed from App Store following bad reviews

Electronic Arts’s free-to-play first-person shooter Battlefield 3: Aftershock, which hit the US App Store earlier this month, has been removed from Apple’s digital marketplace following a spate of bad reviews.

"EA Mobile is committed to delivering mobile entertainment experiences that are on par with the content and quality users have come to expect from their favourite EA gaming brands," a statement from EA reads.

"To this end, we have decided to remove Battlefield 3: Aftershock from the App Store and are currently re-evaluating the app in response to the customer feedback we’ve received. We thank all the fans who have downloaded the game to date."

Shot down

Battlefield 3: Aftershock was a multiplayer-only shoot-’em-up featuring one map and five different weapons, rather than an iOS spin-off of the multi-million selling PS3, Xbox 360, and PC title.

In fact, Aftershock appeared to be a tie-in for the recently released movie Act of Valor. You even had to watch the film’s trailer to unlock the game’s fifth weapon.

A proper Battlefield 3 spin-off, which we saw at last year’s Gamescom event, is still expected to hit the App Store later this year.
