Double Fine has evolved into a studio of some repute within gaming circles. Founded by industry legend Tim Schafer, the company has been responsible for imaginative console titles like Brutal Legend, Stacking, and the much-revered Psychonauts.

Now, Double Fine is using Kickstarter to crowdsource funds for a new point-and-click adventure game, currently entitled Double Fine Adventure. And here's the - ahem - kicker: it might be released on iOS.

When asked whether there would be a Mac or an iOS version of Double Fine Adventure, Schafer replied, "We would love to do both of those things! They are at the top of the list for things to do if we raise more funds than we are asking for."

Schafer is looking to raise $400,000 by March 13th so that he can put his team to work on this two-pronged project.

You see, while $300,000 of the target total will be funnelled into producing the game, the remaining $100,000 will finance an exhaustive behind-the-scenes documentary charting the game's development process.

You'd be psycho-not to

There are other rewards for those willing to throw a little extra cash Double Fine's way, with a $150,000 (or more) pledge 'entitling' you to one of four Triangle Boxed versions of Schafer's own adventure classic Day of the Tentacle.

If you don't have that much change to throw around, a $15 pledge will grant you access to the Steam beta, the video series, and a private backers' community, where you can offer Double Fine your own feedback on its interactive efforts.

At the time of writing, the Double Fine fund is only $19,000 short of the target amount. The numbers are rising so fast, though, that it'll almost certainly have topped $400,000 by the close of play today.

If so, your future is a wondrous place, and I look forward to seeing you all in October when the game (hopefully) arrives on iOS.
