Free-to-play Battlefield 3: Aftershock hits US App Store, coming 'soon' to UK

Delayed iOS shooter Battlefield 3: Aftershock has appeared on the US App Store in the form of a free-to-play, multiplayer-only shooter.

The iOS spin-off of the multi-million selling console title was revealed in June last year, and was originally expected to launch around the same time as the home console versions in October. That, as you can probably gather, didn't happen.

In fact, this current offering on the US App Store may not even be the real release, either, given the reduced feature-list from when we saw the game at Gamescom last year.

Shockwaves

Rather than take on waves of foes with a variety of different weaponry and in locales from the main game, Aftershock instead comes with just the one map and five weapons (one of which is a knife).

You can gain this fifth weapon by watching a trailer for the film Act of Valor inside the app - an approach that makes us suspect this is actually just a promo tie-in, despite the name.

We hope so, anyway, as having been delayed for so long, it seems odd that the title would ship with such little content.

EA's UK PR has told us that it expects the game to arrive 'soon' in Blighty, but it couldn't confirm whether this would be the only version of the game on the Store.

If you're a fine upstanding citizen of the United States, however, then you can grab Aftershock now for free by hitting the button below.
