Following a slump in sales during its second week on shelves, reports are suggesting that Japanese retailers are cutting prices of the 3G-enabled PS Vita.

One retailer snapped by Playfront has been spotted selling the 3G model at almost 17 per cent below its original RRP - from ¥29,980 (£250) down to ¥24,999 (£209).

Early reports from Japanese sites Azalyn and Ameblo also indicate that the wi-fi-only Vita model is proving most popular, with retailers by comparison only shifting 56 per cent of the initial 3G Vita stock.

Take your pick

Over in the US, meanwhile, 3G provider AT&T has outlined its pricing plans for the Vita in North America. Two plans will be available, both of which are the same offered by the telco for other 3G-enabled devices such as the iPad.

A 250MB data plan will cost $14.99 / month, whereas a hefty 2GB data plan will set you back $25 / month. Neither plan is a contract-based one, but those looking to get the most out of their 3G-equipped Vita could be paying a maximum of $300 / year.

Sony had already announced in November that Vodafone would be providing the 3G service for its portable powerhouse in Europe.

No pricing plans have been made available at this time, but European customers connecting with Vodafone will receive a PlayStation Network voucher to download WipEout 2048 for free.
