The Legend of Zelda gets restore points and more as Nintendo begins to update 3DS Ambassador NES games

If you have a fairly good memory, you'll remember that Nintendo mentioned that its ten free NES Ambassador games for 3DS would be updated with "additional features" some time after their release.

Well, here they come.

In Japan, The Legend of Zelda has been updated with some nifty new features, including the ability to create and load your own restore points - a feature found in current Game Boy Virtual Console titles.

The classic action-RPG has also been treated to an all-new digital manual and an improved menu icon.

Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight and the rest of Ninty's free offerings are all expected to be updated at some point, though it's currently unknown when this will happen.

A few generations later

This time last week, Nintendo made ten free Game Boy Advance games available to early adopters of its 3DS handheld. These included Metroid Fusion, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and Wario Land 4.

If you're yet to download the rather excellent bunch of titles, be sure to check out our helpful guide to claiming your freebies.
