According to Tokyo-based magazine publisher Enterbrain, more than 321,407 PS Vita consoles have been sold in Japan in the handheld's launch week.

That number is even more impressive when you consider said launch week began on December 17th and ended on December 18th.

That's all well and good, but how does that number stack up against the launch window of Sony's original PSP?

Well, according - once again - to Enterbrain, Japanese retailers have managed to shift almost twice as many PS Vita units as PSPs during the respective consoles' post-launch week.

Bear in mind, though, that the PSP's launch week total of 166,704 comprised just one day's sales.

Tip top

While the number of shipped PS Vita units is yet to be revealed, it's believed that the handheld's initial shipment was close to 500,000 units.

Several reports, however, state that Sony bolstered this number with an additional 200,000 units in order to meet launch demand.
