Officially announced as coming to iOS in October, it's now been officially announced by EA Mobile that Need for Speed: The Run for Apple devices has been cancelled.

"EA Mobile will not be launching Need for Speed: The Run on iOS," the company revealed on its Facebook page.

"These decisions don't come easily, but in the end our focus on fewer, bigger, better experiences necessitated that we focus resources on another exciting new Need for Speed experience for mobile users coming soon. We'll share more about that in the coming months."

Enter Firemint?

Interestingly, a version of the game was released for Java devices, gaining a less-than-stellar 6/10 from our reviewer Keith Andrew.

However, with the console version of the franchise performing very disappointingly, and the EA-owned developer Firemint assumed to be working away on a Need for Speed racer, it's perhaps not too surprising that it took this decision.
