Top Japanese RPG Chrono Trigger has arrived on the App Store for iPhone, bringing the SNES classic to smartphones for the first time.

Chrono Trigger is one of my all-time favourite RPGs, what with its branching storyline, multiple endings, genuinely engaging plot about time travel and saving the world from an ancient evil, and the absence of random battles.

You play as Crono (yeah, we know) as he finds himself and his chums accidentally flung back in time to a pseudo-Middle Ages world.

Start me up

Considering this adventure game boasts a fairly hefty 30 hours or so of gameplay, things develop quite a bit from this starting point. A lot of this time, for instance, is dedicated to recruiting a variety of people from different eras to help fight back the aforementioned lurking evil.

The game is available on iPhone from today for £6.99 / $9.99, and includes two extra stages added in the Nintendo DS version of the title, as well as a redesigned interface for the touchscreen.

We'll have a review of Chrono Trigger up on the site soon, so keep watching.

Will's obsession with gaming started off with sketching Laser Squad levels on pads of paper, but recently grew into violently shouting "Tango Down!" at random strangers on the street. He now directs that positive energy into his writing (due in no small part to a binding court order).
