Yee-ha, and all that. Gameloft has opened the stable door and allowed its fantasy-western iOS freemium title Six Guns to ride out onto the New Zealand App Store plains.

Taking its cues from a variety of sources - not least the zombie add-on for Red Dead Redemption on consoles - Six Guns puts you in the spurs of Buck Crosshaw (wait, what?), an outlaw in the Wild West who’s had to flee to Arizona to escape the attention of law enforcement.

Only when he gets there, he finds 40 missions spread out in an open-world environment, filled not only with banditos and lawmen, but also demonic creatures and zombies. You know, like in the history books.

Six appeal

There are eight different mounts to pur-chase and 19 increasingly ridiculous weapons to own (including what looks like a chaingun pistol). The missions, meanwhile, range from finding herbs and fighting off the local wildlife, to clearing out spooky crypts and holding fort against the undead horde.

Six Guns should be out on the UK and US App Stores around midnight tonight for free.

Rather than spend the next 11 hours sitting on an old barrel, though, laughing through yellow teeth, why don't you peruse our hands-on preview to get a taste of what to expect.
