Aussie developer Halfbrick is using AU$3 million of government funding to set up a second development studio in Sydney, which will work on a sequel to the Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning iOS slash-'em-up Fruit Ninja.

The new title doesn't sound like it'll be a retread of the first game, though (or, indeed, the Puss In Boots tie-in).

Instead of cutting up fruit with well-timed slashes of your device's screen, the new title will task you with knocking ninjas off a range of towers, and features each fruit having its own 'special power'.

You can expect the next title in the popular Fruit Ninja series to hit the App Store some time in 2012. Other platforms are expected to follow shortly after.
