It's been a bad week for Apple's iPhone 4. According to reports, there have been two separate instances of Apple's ageing gadget spontaneously combusting in the past seven days.

The first of these two combustions, which occurred last Friday on board a passenger plane to Sydney, is said to have involved "fumes, smoke, and fire". Three things you definitely don't want to see on an aeroplane.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is currently examining the device and interviewing the relevant crew members and passengers, and plans to speak directly with Apple.

"It is in our custody and we will be undertaking a technical examination of it. We will be interviewing directly involved parties and also in our technical examination of the phone we are going to be consulting with the manufacturer as well," a spokesman for the aviation watchdog said.

Try again

If that wasn't bad enough, website Mashable is reporting that a second iPhone 4 short-circuited on a bedside table in Brazil, and subsequently began to burn just 15 inches from the face of its sleeping owner.

The man quickly unplugged the device and opened a window after awakening to an "unbearable" smell, sparks, and black smoke.

Let us know if your iPhone 4 spontaneously combusts in the comments section below. But not from the iPhone 4 itself... of course.
