Android 4.0, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich, will be coming to Sony Ericsson’s entire Xperia range including the Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson has announced today.

“We are working on merging our current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0,” the company said in a blog post. But the phone maker was tight-lipped about when it expects this update to occur.

“More detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated in due course.”

Ice Cream Sandwich promises to bring new features and minor tweaks to the operating system, including a better copy and paste function, a new voice input engine, and improved spell-check and word suggestion when texting thanks to a new set of dictionaries.

You’ll also be able to do certain things without unlocking your phone, such as use the camera and pull down the notifications bar.
