Activision delays launch of its Call of Duty Elite mobile app

Since the launch of console shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on 8th November, Activision has struggled to keep its stat-tracking and social service Elite up and running.

The publisher has claimed that problems are due to an "overwhelming response" which has overburdened their servers.

Now, it seems that the publishing giant has decided to delay the Elite mobile app - which was supposed to debut last week on iOS and Android devices - to avoid any additional strain on their servers.

"We are holding back on launching the Elite mobile applications until the service is stable and our players can easily access it. We will have the apps ready to launch as soon as we are comfortable the experience will be a great one".

Elite is a social and stat-tracking service which was launched as a console application alongside Modern Warfare 3. The free version of Elite allows users to manage their custom classes, share HD gameplay videos, and join groups and clans.

Meanwhile, those paying the £34.99 / $49.99 annual membership fee also gain access to all downloadable content released for the terrorist-blasting FPS during their membership at no further cost, as well as other benefits such as competitions with real-world prizes.

Both free and premium users of Elite will be able to gain access to the service through the mobile applications when they are released.
