The two-man indie team behind Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winner Bumpy Road is bringing a rhythm-stealth-puzzler to iOS devices early next year.

Beat Sneak Bandit has a moderately nutty premise. Baron Von Clockface has stolen the world’s supply of clocks, and - playing as the titular boy Bandit - your job is to sneak through each 2D room of the Baron’s mansion, stealing back clocks as you go.

To move, you tap the screen to the beat of each level’s background music, avoiding detection by patrolling guards and spotlights as you go. It’s all in the timing, as you’ll have to closely observe patrol patterns in order to work out which beats to move on in order to stay hidden in each level.

Rhythmically challenged

Each level contains four challenge clocks, which require careful thought and pattern recognition before you can get your hands on them. With no time limits on the levels, it’s often a case of observing the level and planning your stealthy approach.

IGN gives the example of a clock that's on the other side of a security guard who paces back and forth on every third beat, while a nearby trapdoor opens up on every fifth beat. You’ve got to figure these patterns out, and then use rhythmic taps to reach your target.

It’s all wrapped up in a charming visual style, and as long as the puzzles can stay satisfying and the beats can stay fresh over the course of the planned 40+ levels Beat Sneak Bandit looks like it could be one to watch when it arrives on the App Store early next year.
