Apple has confirmed that a fix is on the way for iPhone 4S users whose devices are suffering from poor battery life.

In a statement released yesterday, Apple said, "A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices."

"We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks."

Apple has been forced to react to increasing numbers of complaints from disgruntled iPhone 4S owners, some of whom have found their handsets drained of charge after only a few hours of use.

Suggested explanations for the battery’s poor performance have ranged from corrupted contacts lists to a problem with the phone’s location service, although Apple refused to elaborate on the exact nature of the bugs discovered.

Despite receiving a less-than-enthusiastic response at its unveiling, the iPhone 4S was snapped up by a record-breaking 4 million people over the launch weekend.
