Avoid, a retro-styled evasion game originally available on Xbox Live Indie Games, has been released on the Android Market fully optimised for the Xperia Play.

The game is the work of Nottingham-based indie developer NerfGames, and offers three of the original game’s modes – Marathon, Collect, and Power. Each mode sees you avoiding incoming blocks from all directions, similar to Geometry Wars’s Pacifism mode.

In Collect and Power modes you need to gather orbs or power-ups which shrink your block, increase your speed, or grant you a shield for a short time. Marathon mode is a basic test of survival.

Sadly, the multiplayer mode that sees four blocks competing to drag orbs to their respective ‘bases’ in the corners of the screen didn’t make it to the final Android release.

There is both a free version (download) and a paid version (download) costing 50p.
