The season of funny costumes, scary masks, and – most importantly – free sweets is just around the corner, and EA is celebrating that fact with a brand-new Halloween update for freemium title Ghost Harvest.

For starters, this refresh introduces two new Ghost Defenders to mix – Cute Cthulhu, Ghastly Nailface – as well as some new nuisances, such as the Headless Horseman.

The free update also allows you to compete with your spectral buddies on various Game Center leaderboards, apply power-ups to your spooks, and raise a newfangled baby ghost, who will grow into a petrifying Red Reaper if you take care of her.

Finally, you're now able to decorate and spruce up your otherwise dreary cemetery with a host of fresh decorations, which you can now admire in greater detail thanks to support for Apple's Retina display.

Ghost Harvest is available for free from the App Store, with plenty of optional in-app purchases to tempt your wallet.
