Firemint's technically splendid Real Racing 2 is always at the cutting edge of what iOS can manage, so it's no surprise that the Australian developer has already announced an update for both the iPhone and iPad versions that will juice up the graphics and let players battle it out together on the big screen.

Party Play mode, as Firemint calls it, will let two to four players stream the game to an HDTV over AirPlay for split-screen races. Only one player, the host, needs an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 – the other players just need compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models. You can see it in action in the video below.

The graphical improvements to Real Racing 2 include real-time dynamic shadows for car interiors, enhanced detail on car exteriors and driver arms, an average 4x increase in polygon count for some cars, and improved lighting and reflections.

Real Racing 2 and Real Racing 2 HD will be updated “just in time for iOS 5”.
