Sony Ericsson helps out CyanogenMod team with 20 phones

Sony Ericsson turned some heads this weekend when it officially gave support to the FreeXperia developers working on bringing CyanogenMod to the brand’s devices.

The company gave 20 phones to the group of enthusiast developers to help them with the task of making CyanogenMod 7.1 suitable for all Xperia handsets. It also provided them with debugged camera library binaries which they later want to make available for all developers under a special EULA license.

“The reason for this is that we firmly believe in the openness of Android,” said Karl-Johan Dahlström Head of Developer Relations. “And we are really impressed by the huge activity shown in our products.”
