In an interview with IGN at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that the company is developing an external battery for its upcoming Vita handheld.

“If you have noticed, we have just announced the peripherals for PS Vita. And one of the peripherals is the external battery. That extends the battery life of PS Vita,” Yoshida said.

“So if you’re flying from New York to San Francisco, or vice versa, you have no concerns if you have an additional external battery.”

The Vita, like Nintendo's 3DS, will offer around 3-5 hours of gaming on a single charge.
