Pokemon Smash, a popular Japanese variety show dedicated to the monster-battling franchise, will feature a shock announcement from Pokemon game creator Junichi Masuda in its next episode.

Previous announcements of this kind from Masuda have related to new Pokemon projects, and the official website for Pokemon Smash states that ‘latest game information’ is to be revealed in the September 18th broadcast.

However, speculation that this announcement might relate to a new Pokemon game or spin-off was slightly dampened after a previous episode hinted that Masuda would simply be involved in a "Mewtwo giveaway".

It’s worth noting that Nintendo has a busy week ahead, what with its 3DS press conference tomorrow and the Tokyo Game Show later in the week.

It's entirely plausible, therefore, that Nintendo could reveal a 3DS instalment of the Pokemon franchise then, along with some of these rumoured games.
