Developer DotEmu has announced that it's bringing retro side-scrolling shoot-'em-up R-Type to Android devices.

Originally developed and published in 1987, R-Type sees you piloting an R-9a Arrowhead spacecraft as you wage war against an alien invasion.

The Android outing of the game will contain all of the features found in the original, including a vast number of items and power-ups, and the game's famous 'charge shot'.

There are eight levels, each filled with strong enemies and bosses, and the ability to share your progress with your OpenFeint buddies.

R-Type will ship with two difficulty modes and 'a new intuitive control system'.

Arcade-'em-up

R-Type has graced several platforms in the past, such as the arcade cabinet, the Amiga, the Atari, the Amstrad, the Commodore 64, and the PC.

It will be available for Android on September 12th from the Android Market and the Amazon Appstore.

A price is yet to be revealed.
