The best of free Android gaming: Switch
Start it up
It’s quite often the case that the free games on Android tend to be riffs on established genres, but rarely are they as polished and good-looking as Switch - Playbox’s attempt at the endless racing genre.
Coming across like a cross between WipEout’s Zone mode and those classic dodge-'em-ups of the LCD days (you know the kind - move your car so it doesn’t hit traffic), Switch is fast and brutal.
The aim is to simply drive as far as you can before you inevitably crash into a blue barrier or another racer. There are occasionally power-ups that make you invincible for a short time, but otherwise you’ll have to rely on good old-fashioned reactions to prevail.
Dodge chargerWhere Switch excells over over similar titles is its graphics and pacing. The 3D track winds and weaves to throw you off-balance as the difficulty ramps up, while the random layouts feel genuinely like they’re getting harder at just the right pace.
Add to that the bordering-on-insane speeds your craft reaches should you survive for over a minute, and the integration of OpenFeint leaderboards, and you have a title that’s well worth dipping into.
We recommend you grab Switch by hitting this link, however, as it’s incredibly hard to find with an Android Market search (download).
