Exclusive: Townsmen reboot heading to Android and iPhone later this year

A completely new entry to one of my personal favourite Java series Townsmen is set to appear on both iOS and Android later this year, marking the first time the acclaimed series has appeared on an Apple device.

During my visit to HandyGames this week, CEO Christopher Kassulke confirmed that the critically lauded city-builder is in production for iPhone.

He wouldn’t reveal too much information about what it will entail, other than that it will be set in the medieval period (unlike the Pocket Gamer Gold Award-winning Townsmen 6) and has been designed with touchscreen smartphones in mind.

One thing we can be sure of: it won’t be called Townsmen 7, because, as Kassulke puts it, “it won’t be the same game” as the Java entries.

The addictive cocktail of The Settlers-style city-building and HandyGames's humour will most likely still be present, however.

Will's obsession with gaming started off with sketching Laser Squad levels on pads of paper, but recently grew into violently shouting "Tango Down!" at random strangers on the street. He now directs that positive energy into his writing (due in no small part to a binding court order).
