Halfbrick launches developer diary video series for upcoming iPhone and iPad endless runner Machine Gun Jetpack

Fruit Ninja creator Halfbrick has launched a new video series which takes you behind the scenes of Machine Gun Jetpack's development process.

The first video in the series (which you can watch below) details the story of the game, gives you a sneak peek at the vehicles and hazards you'll encounter, and explains the various collectibles dotted throughout.

If you don't already know, Machine Gun Jetpack sees you controlling the foul-mouthed action hero Barry Steakfries in his return to iOS.

The story - a "kinda" prequel to Monster Dash - begins with Barry stealing a volatile, experimental machine gun-powered jetpack, and attempting to make an escape with it.

Naturally, there's a endless corridor featuring hundreds of booby traps standing in your way.

Machine Gun Jetpack currently contains three different booby traps that aim to spoil your fun: an electric gate known as a Zapper, homing missiles that fly across the screen at high speeds, and unpredictable laser fields that appear in various patterns and arrangements.

Luckily, you're not restricted to just your jetpack, though - you'll find yourself behind the wheel of the mech-like Stomper, and everybody's favourite feathered friend, aka the Prophet Bird.

As you progress through the corridor, you'll collect coins that can be used to purchase a selection of new jetpacks, upgrades, and costumes, and you'll grab final-spin tokens that give bonuses at the end of each game.

You'll even slug it out for leaderboard placings and achievements, which we assume means Game Center support is integrated.

Pocket Gamer was lucky enough to go hands-on with Machine Gun Jetpack at this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC) back in March.

And you can expect to see it hit the App Store all guns blazing this September.

In the meantime, you can tune in to Halfbrick's YouTube channel each week for an additional developer diary.
